World School of Bangladesh
World School of Bangladesh (WSB) is a K-12 educational institute that uses innovative and transformative education programs to change the lives of Bangladeshi students with Bengali and Muslim identity, as well as students of other faiths. Offering Cambridge IGCSE and A Level programs, WSB provides academic excellence while honoring Bengali heritage and Islamic values, ensuring students of all faiths learn and practice their own religious principles.
The partnership between Kustawi Institute and WSB represents a profound intellectual and pedagogical relationship. Professor Tamari Kitossa, founder of Kustawi Institute, serves as both academic and professional mentor to WSB founder Firoze Alam, and continues as International Advisor to the school. Professor Kitossa has been instrumental in educating and inspiring Firoze Alam to understand that the struggle for social justice is a global struggle—one that transcends borders and communities. Through this mentorship, Firoze developed a deeper appreciation of Black traditions of social resistance and their profound contributions to the rights of Muslims in the global North and to Bengali struggles for social justice worldwide.
Professor Kitossa's teachings and epistemic philosophy have significantly shaped WSB's curriculum, embedding critical perspectives on anti-Black racism and interconnected social justice movements throughout the educational framework. This influence is evident in WSB's inclusion of prominent Muslim figures like Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali in the curriculum—leaders whose legacies of resistance and dignity exemplify the global solidarity that Professor Kitossa champions. This ongoing mentorship continues to be instrumental in developing WSB's commitment to addressing systemic inequities and fostering global consciousness in its students.
Both organizations share a powerful alignment in their missions of empowerment and thriving. While Kustawi supports African descent boys and men in acknowledging trauma and building resilience toward full actualization, WSB creates pathways for Bangladeshi students to develop as confident global citizens deeply rooted in their cultural identity and moral values—informed by the same social justice principles that animate Kustawi's work.
Together, Kustawi Institute and World School of Bangladesh envision communities that not only survive but thrive—realizing their power as "conscious, healthy, self-reliant and spiritual beings," equipped with academic excellence, cultural pride, critical consciousness, and the ethical foundation necessary to become compassionate, capable individuals ready to contribute positively to an interconnected world.
